Calcium sodium alginate dressing
A calcium sodium alginate (80% calcium and 20% sodium) made out of natural seaweed. The alginate component enables the dressing to absorb up to 20 times its own weight in exudate.
indications
- Moderate to heavily exuding wounds
- Shallow and cavity wounds
- Venous, arterial, pressure and diabetic foot ulcers
- Donor sites
- Abrasions and lacerations
- Superficial and partial thickness burns
features & benefits
- Facilitates moist wound healing by maintaining a moist environment
- Haemostatic properties due to the release of calcium ions when in contact with exudate
- Reduces the risk of maceration due to high levels of absorbency
- Mode of action
- The exchange of calcium ions (within the dressing) with sodium ions (in exudate) transforms the alginate into a moist gel.
