Suprasorb A

Non-woven calcium alginate dressing – For moderate to heavily exuding wounds

Indicated for moderate to heavily exuding, superficial and deep wounds in the exudation and granulation phase, e.g. pressure ulcers, leg ulcers of various origins (venous/arterial), diabetic foot ulcers, skin donor and skin grafting sites, postoperative wounds, partial thickness burns.

How it works

1. Surplus exudate from the wound is absorbed by the dressing

2. Formation of gel through ion exchange

Key benefits

  • High capacity to absorb exudate, due to natural absorption of alginate
  • Conforms to any wound bed
  • Rapid formation of a soft and gentle gel which binds the exudate
  • Bacteria is trapped in the gel
  • Easily and safely removed by irrigation with normal saline

Suprasorb A has the absorptive capacity to cope with moderate to heavily exuding wounds, as well as creating the optimum wound environment through the natural cleansing effect of alginate.

The exchange of calcium ions from the wound dressing with the sodium ions from the wound exudate leads to formation of a gel. The gel binds exudate and encloses bacteria, which can be irrigated safely away by using normal saline at each dressing change.

Suprasorb A is available as a flat sheet and as a rope dressing which can be used in cavities and sinus wounds, as well as other deep and superficial wounds.

How to use

  • Place dressing directly over the wound with a 2cm overlap or, if using the rope dressing to treat cavities or sinus wounds, gently place into the cavity/sinus
  • Requires secondary dressing, e.g. film, superabsorbent or non-adhesive
  • Irrigate away with tap water or normal saline (according to local guidelines)
  • Depending on the amount of exudate and the secondary dressing used - can be left in situ for up 7 days

Precautions

The dressing is not suitable for dry wound conditions or for full thickness burns. Do not use in the case of a known sensitivity to any components.
